Itinerant preachers invade Koforidua
Itinerant preachers who use loudspeakers have invaded the streets of Koforidua, especially the central business district, in what many people say is a disturbance to the hitherto quiet atmosphere.

As early as 5 a.m., the preachers mount their speakers at vantage points, blaring music and preaching in a manner that some people have described as very harmful to the ear.
They start by playing loud music, preaching and then soliciting for offertory, which they claim would be used to spread the word of God.
Nuisance
A trader, Madam Afua Akyaa, who sells provisions, said although she was not against the preachers, the noise they made was a nuisance to the general public.
She, therefore, called on the New Juaben Municipal Assembly to put measures in place to stop the preachers from disturbing the public.
“Their numbers increase on market days (Mondays and Thursdays) when a lot of us are doing brisk business, and this leads to loss of concentration, because of the noise,” she told the Daily Graphic.
For his part, Kofi Dua was not happy that the New Juaben Municipal Assembly had not taken any decision on such itinerant preachers.
A foodstuff seller near the offices of the Daily Graphic, Yaa Serwaa, also complained of the noise-making activities of these preachers and expressed the hope that something would be done about it.

Assembly to act soon
When contacted, an official of the New Juaben Municipal Assembly said the Municipal Chief , Dr Kwaku Acheampong, had received many complaints on the matter.
He said the district assembly would soon, in consultation with other stakeholders, take a decision on the activities of such preachers.
