The beneficiaries were screened for various illnesses, including high blood pressure and diabetes, and medications prescribed to those who needed them.

The residents were also educated on how to live healthy lifestyles.

Healthline launch

The exercise was further used to launch Vodafone Healthline Season 4, a television series designed to educate and empower Ghanaians to take control of their health.

The Chief Marketing Officer of Vodafone Ghana, Ms Uche Ofodile, told the Daily Graphic that the new season would be more engaging than the previous ones.

She explained that two new segments, dubbed ‘Street doctor’, which aimed at educating Ghanaians on first aid techniques, and ‘Case study’, an in-studio interaction with patients living with various health conditions, had been introduced into the new series.

Over the next 13 weeks, Ms Ofodile said Ghanaians would be informed on a wide range of health issues, including heart diseases, sickle cell, diabetes, sex, cancer, allergies and infertility.

She indicated that the TV show, which will air on TV 3 and United Television (UTV) every weekday, would be empanelled by doctors who would carry out in-depth discussions on various diseases and ailments.

Corporate social responsibility

Explaining the reason for Vodafone’s involvement in the health sector, Ms Ofodile said the initiative was the company’s corporate social responsibility, adding that it also demonstrates its commitment to improving the lives of communities where it operated.

“Through Healthline, Vodafone Ghana has brought smiles to tens of homes and communities across the country.

“Seeing people in need of urgent medical attention transformed from that look of despair to a renewed sense of purpose has been a very emotional and rewarding journey to us,” she emphasised.
