Kosmos Energy fulfils Ebola promise
Kosmos Energy Ghana has handed over a 60kva industrial power generator and a one tonne hazardous waste incinerator to the Tema Ebola treatment centre in part fulfilment of a promise to support Ghana’s proactive measures to contain the Ebola Virus Disease.

The two other treatment centres to be constructed in Kumasi and Tamale which together with the centre constitute Ghana’s three Ebola treatment centres, are next in line to be presented with the critical support.
Kosmos Energy in October promised to provide ‘critical’ equipment for the three centres to augment the country’s proactive measures to contain the virus should Ghana record any case of the disease.

The Vice-President of Kosmos, Mr Ken Keag estimated the cost of the support at $325,000 and indicated that “Although Ghana has not yet had a confirmed case of Ebola, it is important for the nation to be prepared”.
The support followed extensive discussions with the Ministry of Health to know Ghana’s needs and preparedness level.
Good corporate citizen
Kosmos Energy said as a good corporate citizen, it was aware of the devastating effect of the Ebola virus and acknowledged the key role Ghana was playing in the sub-region to prevent its further spread.
Speaking to the Daily Graphic after the handing over, the Director - Health, Safety, Environment and Security at Kosmos Energy Ghana Dr. Kwame Boakye Agyei said the company was delighted to associate with the fight against Ebola.
Kumasi and Tamale
He said the second aspects was to replicate the donation for Kumasi and Tamale as well as provide other critical medical equipment to activate and position the isolation units in readiness for any Ebola patient should the country record any.
Dr Agyei said the company was only waiting for the Ministry of Health to commence the construction of the Kumasi and Tamale isolation units and expressed the hope that the construction of the units would be completed on schedule.
“There are lots of equipment that is being procured at the moment for the remaining two units and Kosmos is ready to install anytime the units are ready and we will not renege on our promise to deliver,” he said.
Construction
For his part, the Head of Public Relations at the Ministry of Health Mr. Tony Goodman commended the company for not reneging on its promise.
“As we speak now the 48-Engineering Regiment of the Ghana Army are clearing the site for the construction of Kumasi and the Tamale facilities which would be completed in the next three months,” he said.
He said the focus was to have a permanent facility and that putting up a temporary structure would not serve the interest of healthcare delivery in the long run.
Mr. Goodman said currently all is set for the construction and that the military had assured the ministry the two centres would be completed on schedule.
