She made the statement at the opening of the Legacy Girls College, an all girls’ private boarding school, at Akuse.

She recounted problems confronting girls and women in their bid to access education, in getting jobs and in their efforts to progress in life, pointing out that Legacy Girls College would nurture the immense potential of students to be whatever they wanted to be in a fast changing and increasingly complex world.

Education of girls

She described the education of girls as  “a social development policy that works”, and long-term investment that yields an exceptionally high return, stressing, “We need those with power to change things to come together in an alliance for girls’ education: Governments, voluntary progressive groups, and above all, local communities, schools and families.”

In her keynote address, Mrs Mawuena Adzo Trebarh, the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Ghana Investment Promotion Centre, advised girls who go through the institution to build a legacy for success in life, pointing out that Ghanaians needed to commit themselves to the process of excellence.

Optimism and expectations

She also expressed optimism that the school will nurture the remarkable talents of the students that pass through the institution.

The Principal of the college, Mrs Maranatha Kove, said with state of the art facilities that made learning enjoyable and created a homely ambience, Legacy Girls College had the mission to “nurture the immense potential of students”.

The school’s crest was unveiled by Mrs Sedina Tamakloe Attionu, the CEO of Micro Finance and Small Loans Centre (MASLOC), and Her Excellency, Ms Margit Thomsen, the Danish Ambassador to Ghana.
