‘Let’s help to stop terrorism'

The President of the Conference of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana, Rev. Prof. Joseph Obiri Yeboah Mante, has called on Ghanaians, especially Christians, to collaborate with the security agencies to prevent religious extremists from extending their activities to Ghana.

He said although prayers for spiritual intervention and preaching the gospel were important in dealing with such issues, it was also necessary to collaborate with the security agencies “to stop these things from spreading to this country”.

Rev. Prof. Mante was speaking at the opening of the National Ministers’ Conference of the Presbyterian Church in Kumasi.

About 1,000 ministers of the church attended the conference held at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology on the theme, “The minister and the family”.

He sai that the earlier Ghanaians took precautionary measures, the better it would be for the nation.

Dumsor

Rev. Mante described some Christians as not living piously as the light of the world, as prescribed by the Bible.

Rather, he said, although they were portraying themselves as children of God, they were doing the direct opposite of what God required of them.

He also said comparatively, there were more ‘dumsor dumsor’ in the lives of such Christians than the load shedding of electricity the country was currently experiencing.

Moderator

The Moderator of the General Assembly of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana, Rt. Rev. Prof. Emmanuel Martey, said family life was very important to both the church and the nation and that every leader should take good care of his or her family.

He said parents tended to inculcate the traits of corruption in their children when they threw away morals and encouraged their children to tell lies by telling them (children) to inform visitors that they were not at home when they were actually at home.
