The maiden WASH investment plan marketing summit has brought together chief executives and coordinating directors of the local assemblies to market their respective WASH investment plans.

The assemblies are Mion District, Daffiama Busie Issa District, Wa East District, Sissala West District, Nadowli-Kaleo District, Tempane District, Karaga District, Bawku West District, Garu District, Nanton District and Mamprugu Moagduri District.

The others are the Gushegu Municipality, Sagnarigu Municipality, Sissala East Municipality, East Mamprusi Municipality and Yendi Municipality,

The plans are a strategic document that provides an integrated approach for the delivery of WASH services in the districts and it clearly articulates the roadmap to achieving the WASH targets of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG).

It also spells out the targets, achievements, financial commitment, gaps and the resources needed to accelerate access to WASH services.
Also at the event are prospective development partners, private sector players, philanthropists, corporate Ghana and civil society organisations ready to support the MMDAs to raise funds required to implement WASH activities to achieve their targeted goals.

The project, which is being held under the USAID-sponsored Enhancing WASH activities, is being implemented by World Vision Ghana and Global Communities, two non-profit organisations.

To guide the successful implementation of the WASH investment plans from 2023 to 2030, a document guide was also launched for each of the beneficiary MMDAs.

The summit was held on the theme: “Water, sanitation and hygiene for all: Unlocking opportunities for partnership with MMDAs”.

The Deputy Chief of the Party of the Global Communities, Emefa Baidoo, was optimistic that the summit would allow key stakeholders to forge new pathways for partnership and investment.

She said the participation of donors, corporate organisations and development partners demonstrated the critical role that public-private partnerships played in the WASH sector.

“As we look to the future, our focus must remain on making strategic investments that are inclusive and sustainable,” she said.

Ms Baidoo added: “Together, we can unlock the potential of these WASH Investment Plans and ensure that every Ghanaian, no matter where they live, has access to clean water and proper sanitation.”

That integration, she said, was crucial because it would ensure that WASH services would be prioritised and sustainably implemented at the local level, driving progress towards universal access.

“Today, we are not just discussing plans — we are here to take action. We are here to build partnerships that will bring these plans to life,” Ms Baidoo said.

A WASH Technical Specialist for World Vision Ghana, Yaw Attah Arhin, was optimistic that the summit would allow the assemblies and interested stakeholders to sit down to determine where “We can invest in and how we can support to accelerate access to water, sanitation and hygiene”.
