Hafisu Isifu, the businessman believed to be involved in a ploy to murder Natasha Bawah, has been charged with attempt to commit murder before an Accra Magistrate court.

Isifu’s plea was not taken when he appeared before the court, presided over by Mr James Kojo Bota. Isifu has been remanded for a week, while investigations are ongoing.

Presenting the facts of the case, Sergeant Lois Konadu said Natasha, the complainant, is unemployed and resided at Abeka in Accra while the accused, Isifu,  lived at Madina also in Accra.

The prosecutor said there had been death threats and series of kidnapping attempts on Natasha based on a murder case, pending before the Accra Magistrate court in Accra. As a result the regional police command had been monitoring developments in relation to the matter.

Sergeant Konadu said on February 15, 2016 around 8.30 a.m., Natasha received a phone call from an unknown number to meet and collect money at Caprice, around ABC area.

When Natasha arrived, she was further directed by the caller to meet at Avenor, which she did.

Isifu, who had parked his Nissan Taxi car with registration number GT 5832-14 at the place, was monitoring Natasha. Isifu drove to the direction of Natasha and asked if she was looking for a taxi and she said yes.

With the intent to kidnap Natasha, Isifu refused to answer when she asked for the fare. He rather asked her to board the taxi. The Prosecutor said Isifu then removed a knife to stab Natasha, seized her phone and rolled the glasses up.

This created a scene, so Isifu sped off with Natasha to prevent bystanders from hearing her screams. While on their way, a witness boarded the taxi, when he saw Isifu and Natasha struggling, and insisted they drove to the Nima Police Station.

According to the prosecutor, at the police station, Isifu came out with a ficticious story   to the effect that Natasha and two others robbed him of his mobile phones at gun point on May 20, 2015.

Sergeant Konadu said intelligence gathered by the police also indicated that Isifu was hired to commit the offence.
