McDan resumes Terminal 1 operations after airport company approved debt payment terms

McDan Aviation has resumed the Fixed Base Operator (FBO) services at the Kotoka International Airport (KIA) Terminal 1 after the Ghana Airports Company Limited (GACL) approved a payment plan to help clear arrears owed by McDan.

The Ghana Airport Company Limited in December 2024 shut down the operations of McDan at the airport due to debt.

However, following an agreement reached between McDan and the GACL, the airport company has granted access to McDan to continue with operations at Terminal 1.

Checks by Graphic Online on Tuesday, January 21, 2025, confirmed that McDan Aviation’s security personnel had returned to work, and official company vehicles were seen parked in front of Terminal 1.

A source at the airport company confirmed to Graphic Online that McDan has been allowed to operate after the two sides agreed on payment terms.

The GACL, in December 2024 explained that McDan had an outstanding debt of over US$3.9 million.

It said the debt, which had been accumulating since 2020, includes US$3,995,622.66 and GH¢13,523.37.

While McDan Aviation paid GH¢2 million during that period, GACL had initially insisted on full settlement before reopening the terminal.

Following discussions, the two parties successfully resolved the issues, allowing McDan Aviation to restart operations.

In a statement dated January 21, 2025, McDan Aviation expressed gratitude to GACL for its collaboration and support, which enabled the resolution and reopening of its services at Terminal 1.

With the reopening of its FBO services, McDan Aviation is once again providing private jet services.

These include access to luxury lounges and personalised concierge services.

“We are excited to welcome our clients back and continue offering the top-tier service they expect from us,” McDan Aviation said in the statement.
