Melcom assists four

Melcom Care Foundation, the philanthropic wing of the Melcom Group of Companies yesterday donated cash and some assorted items to three organisations and an individual.

The organisations are the Korle Bu Hospital Trust Fund, Elivava Productions, Miss Earth, while the individual is a medical student of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST).

 

The Korle Bu Hospital Trust Fund received GH¢5,000 as seed money to support the setting up of the fund, and Ms Victoria Marfowaa Adom-Afrifa, from KNUST, had $1,000 to cover her tuition, health insurance, and airport tax to undertake a five-year  a medical school elective programme in the Regensburg University Hospital in Germany.

Miss Earth, a non-governmental organisation, received assorted sanitation equipment to support an environmental awareness project embarked upon by the organisation, and Elivava Productions headed by Elivava, a singer and performer, received assorted books and stationery to donate to the pupils of New Baika Republic School in Hohoe.

Speaking at a ceremony in Accra, the Director of Communications of the Melcom Group, Mr Godwin Avenorgbo, said the company was committed to supporting organisations and individuals to meet their goals.

For instance, he said, the donation of assorted books and stationery to Elivava Productions met the company’s cardinal goal of assisting the needy in rural communities.

He, therefore, expressed the company’s commitment to be consistent with the goal of meeting targeted corporate social responsibility needs of people because the company was a people-centred organisation providing services and meeting daily basic needs of its cherished customers.

“What we do for corporate social responsibility at Melcom is not a favour but a duty that must be seen to be done,” he said.

Mr Avenorgbo, therefore, expressed the hope that the support provided would go a long way to meet the needs of the intended organisation and individuals

Speaking on behalf of the beneficiaries, Ms Sarah Okaikoi from the Korle Bu Hospital Trust Fund, lauded Melcom Care for its support and pledged to use the items and cash for the intended purpose.
