IGP, AG and National Security capo sued for torture

The National Security Coordinator, the Inspector General of Police and the Attorney General have been sued by the Editor of Mordernghana.com, Emmanuel Ajarfor.

Ajarfor has filed a suit at the Human Rights Division of the High Court against the security capos alleging the violation of his right to personal liberty, fair trial and human dignity, following his arrest last month by operatives of National Security.

Mr Adjarfor was arrested last month from his office together with a reporter, Emmanuel Yeboah Britwum over what security operatives said was in connection with cyber crime.

The two were held for two days before being released, however they alleged torture in the hands of the national security operatives. Emmanuel Yeboah Britwum has since denied ever being tortured.

The controversial arrest and surrounding circumstances have since elicited calls for an independent probe, with the Ghana Journalists Association in particular condemning the arrest and alleged torture.

The High Court suit is seeking orders directed at the Attorney General to prosecute the officers alleged to have tortured Mr Ajarfor, the release of all seized items back to him and compensation, according to a report monitored on Citi News.

Counsel for Mr. Ajarfor, Samson Lardy Anyenini also hinted at civil suit against the perpetrators of the illegal and unconstitutional and criminal conduct.
