The association, which has its headquarters in Agona Swedru in the Central Region, was formed on June 12, 2013.

It has the objective to address issues affecting the development of the vulnerable and rural performing artistes in the arts and entertainment industry.

The President of MUDAG, Mr George William Dickson, addressing the gathering, said the association was formed primarily to transform the music industry in Ghana through employing professionalism in the creative industry.

He noted that MUDAG chose Agona Swedru as its headquarters to bridge the gap between the rural and urban musicians and dancers to eliminate the notion that, if one does not reside in the capital city, that individual cannot be part of the entertainment industry.

He added that MUDAG and Rhythms of African Music Foundation, a non-governmental organisation based in South Africa, would organise a series of workshops to empower musicians across the country.

He stated further that the two organisations had plans to do  advocate on societal issues such as tuberculosis, HIV/AIDS and domestic violence to help reduce their prevalence in the country.

He urged all dancers and musicians to take advantage of the association to broaden their horizon.

In a speech read on her behalf, the Minister of Tourism, Culture and Creative Arts, Mrs Elizabeth Ofosu Adjare, said that it had become necessary and crucial for the country to critically contribute to the arts industry for its development.

She noted that in contemporary times, the creative arts industry had been a huge source of livelihood for many and continued to play a pivotal role towards the socio-economic development of the country.

According to her, the arts was also the main wheel for cultural promotion, adding that it was, therefore, important for all stakeholders to join efforts of the government to promote the industry, as well as improve the economic well-being of the people.
