NACOB man entangled in abortion case
Walter Lamboe, who is alleged to have had a hand in a failed abortion attempt by Francisca Osei, 19, subsequently leading to her death, is before an Accra Magistrate Court.
Lamboe was charged on two counts of illegal abortion and manslaughter when he appeared before the court, but his plea was not taken.
The court, presided over by Mr James Kojo Bota, remanded Lamboe into police custody for two weeks.
The facts of the case, as presented by Chief Inspector Gregory Yeboah, are that Lamboe works at the Narcotics Control Board (NACOB) while Francisca lived with Lamboe as his girlfriend.
According to the prosecutor, on March 18, 2016, Lamboe personally went to the Nungua Police Station to report that Francisca complained of a headache and he gave her some drugs to take, although he knew that she was pregnant.
C/Inspector Yeboah said Lamboe left for work at night leaving Francisca alone in the room.
When Lamboe returned the next day, he saw Francisca lying dead on the bed, with some whitish foam in her nostrils and on her mouth.
Prosecutor Yeboah said Lamboe was, therefore, arrested to assist in investigations.
Mr Yeboah said preliminary investigations revealed that Francisca took poison to terminate her pregnancy.
Investigations are still on-going.
