NADMO prepares for Kpong shut down
The National Disaster management organisation, (NADMO) and its partner organisations Thursday held an emergency meeting to put in place measures to supply water to some institutions as the Kpong Water works is shut down.

The meeting, which is the third, is meant to manage the water situation in Accra when the Weija water was shut down and it brought together the relief and reconstruction technical advisory committees of NADMO, Ghana Water Company (GWC), Accra Metropolitan Assembly Health Directorate, the National Security and the Ghana Police Service.
Briefing the Ghana News Agency after the meeting, Mr Ebenezer Dosoo of NADMO, in charge of Technical, said NADMO would complement the GWC’s ten tankers with five more in Accra East as well as augment water services to Tema.
The shut-down is to enable the Kpong plant to align the new improved system to the existing one, to improve water services to the areas it serves.
The Four day exercise in the Tema region, which started on Thursday, February 27, is expected to end by Sunday March 2, however residents are advised to expect water to flow by the evening of Tuesday March 4.
Mr Dosoo said health facilities and schools would be supplied water from tankers, and noted that, NADMO has planned for water supplies for the next ten days barring any unforeseen circumstances.
Scope of works for the Kpong Water Supply Expansion Project is estimated to cost about $273 million, and would involve the construction of a new 353,000 m3 per day intake, expansion of treatment plant to 250,000 m3 per day and construction of new transmission mains through Dodowa and Adenta to the Accra Booster station.
Other works involve distribution improvement, construction of reservoir and provision of dedicated electricity supply.

The full project is expected to be completed this year and would provide water to the Shai hills, Tema, Prampram, Ningo, Ashiaman , Teshie Nungua among other areas.
