National Service Authority pledges to clear all outstanding personnel allowances by week's end

The National Service Authority has moved to reassure thousands of frustrated service personnel that their long-awaited allowances will be paid by the close of this week, attributing the current delays to an ongoing verification process by the Ghana Interbank Payment and Settlement Systems Limited that must be completed "to ensure accuracy and financial integrity."

In a statement issued on February 17, 2026, and signed by Director-General Ruth Dela Seddoh, the NSA reaffirmed its commitment to the prompt payment of outstanding allowances owed to National Service Personnel, acknowledging that the funds in question are critical to supporting young Ghanaians throughout their mandatory service year.

"Management of the National Service Authority wishes to assure all National Service Personnel and stakeholders that concrete steps are being taken to expedite the payment of outstanding allowances owed to legitimate Service Personnel," the statement read, striking a tone of urgency and reassurance.

The Authority sought to clarify the specific bottleneck responsible for the delays that have left many service personnel in a state of financial uncertainty. According to the statement, the Controller and Accountant-General's Department advanced funds for disbursement last week, sufficient to cover two months of allowances. However, the payment process has been temporarily stalled by a necessary verification procedure.

"However, Management wants to state categorically that the delay stems from an ongoing verification process by the Ghana Interbank Payment and Settlement Systems Limited, which must be completed to ensure accuracy and financial integrity before payments are finally effected," the statement explained, making a clear distinction between the availability of funds and the technical requirements that must precede their distribution.

"We acknowledge the patience, resilience demonstrated by Service Personnel during this period and your service to the nation remains deeply valued and appreciated," the statement noted, recognising the difficult circumstances facing young graduates who depend on these allowances for their daily subsistence.

The most concrete assurance came in the form of a firm deadline. "Management is committed to ensuring that all verified and legitimate arrears are cleared by close of this week," the statement said, offering service personnel a specific timeframe within which they can expect to receive their dues.

The Authority also pledged to maintain open lines of communication with affected personnel, promising that timely updates would be provided through official channels. "We will continue to provide timely updates through our official communication channels to keep personnel fully informed," the statement concluded.

The development comes as welcome news to thousands of national service personnel across the country who have been grappling with the financial strain of delayed stipends, which serve as a crucial lifeline during their year of mandatory national service.
