The items (worth thousands of Ghana Cedis) comprising bags of rice, sugar, mosquito nets, clothes and medical equipment are to support the well-being of the inmates.

The donation is part of ESBECAN’s social responsibility programme and the activities marking the 30th anniversary of ESBECAN. The items were given to both the male and female departments of the prison.

Presenting the items, the Chairman of the anniversary committee, Mr Greg Parbey, said since the government alone could not shoulder the cost of providing for all the institutions, it was imperative for corporate institutions to extend assistance to the inmates.

As part of their anniversary programme, the association organised a free medical outreach programme for over 800 residents of Afienya and its surrounding communities a fortnight ago. According to Mr Parbey, the NGO will continue to help needy institutions across the country. Receiving the items on behalf of the Nsawam Female Prison, Chief Inspector of Prisons (CSP) Margaret Dangal thanked the association and called on other  institutions to come to the aid of the prison.
