Oda Community Hospital gives free health screening

The Community Hospital at Akyem Oda, in collaboration with the Alexander Akwasi Acquah Foundation, has from April to August this year offered free health screening and medication to 7,847 people in all the 18 electoral areas in the Akyem Oda Constituency in the Eastern Region.

A team of medical personnel from the Oda Community Hospital screened the beneficiaries for malaria, diarrhoea, diabetes, hypertension and cavity decay, among other ailments.

The Alexander Akwasi Acquah Foundation provided funding for the exercise.

The two organisations during the same period also renewed the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) cards for 2,370 people free of charge.

The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Community Hospitals Group, Mr Alexander Akwasi Acquah, who is also the founder of the Alexander Akwasi Acquah Foundation, disclosed this last Monday at Akyem Oda during an exercise to screen about 1,000 residents in the constituency.

Hidden diseases

“An amount of GH¢60,000 was spent on screening, medication and renewal of health insurance cards,” he said.

He said the free health screening exercise had helped in diagnosing diseases that were hidden in many poor people and helping them seek early treatment.

Mr Acquah said 879 people diagnosed with serious ailments were referred to hospitals for treatment.

Affordable health care

He said the exercise was aimed at complementing the government’s efforts to provide quality but affordable health care for the masses.
He promised to replicate the gesture in all the six community hospitals in the country.
