Ogyeahohoo Yaw Gyebi chairs Western Reg House of Chiefs

The Omanhene of the Sefwi Anhwiaso Traditional Area, Ogyeahohoo Yaw Gyebi II, 66, has been elected as the new President of the Western Regional House of Chiefs. 

Nana Gyebi, an Accountant by profession, polled eight votes to beat Nana Kwesi Agyemang IX, the Omanhene of Lower Dixcove Traditional Area, who had been acting as the president of the House until the election.

He secured seven of the total votes at the election, which was conducted by the regional office of the Electoral Commission.

Out of the total 21-member House, 11 were present while four had proxy votes.

The Sekondi High Court Judge, Mr Justice Peter Kwodwo Ababio swore in the new President. 

He appeaIed to Nananom to adopt pragmatic measures to reduce the numerous chieftaincy disputes in the region which were hampering effective development.

For the position of Vice President, Awulae  Amihere Kpanyili, the Paramount Chief of the Eastern  Nzema Traditional Area, also polled eight votes to beat Okogyeman Kweku  Gyampra, the Omanhene of Chirano Traditional  Area and a member  of the  Council  of  State, who had seven of the votes.

The House again elected five of  the members as representatives to the National House of Chiefs.

They were Nana Kobina Nketsia, the Omanhene of Essikado Traditional Area, Awulae Attibrukusu, Omahene of Lower Axim Traditional Area, Awulae Amihere Kpanyili, Ogyeahohoo, the new president and Awulae  Annor  Adjaye, the Omanhene of Western  Nzema Traditional Area.
