Pay Nigeria or we suffer worse dumsor - Wereko-Brobby

The former Chief Executive Officer of the Volta River Authority, Dr Charles Wereko-Brobby has warned that Ghana's power crisis will worsen if government does not settle its indebtedness to the Nigerian government by Wednesday.

He said the government of Ghana owed the Nigerian government about $180 million from the supply of gas to the country.

Dr Brobby added that the debt has forced the Nigerian government to take drastic measures to either reduce the minimum that is needed to maintain the integrity of the pipeline or Ghana renegotiate payment terms.

He told Joy FM that a number of the thermal plants were already down and it would have been useful if barges the government was hoping to augment power supply had arrived on time given.

“Now the problem for us in terms of stopping ‘dumsor’ is not the arrival or the non-arrival of the barge but if we lose the gas from Nigeria then it means that ‘dumsor’ will be intensified,” he said, adding that the Asogli Power Plant and others which depended solely on the gas will also be affected severely.
