Police discover rifles, ammunition in palm plantation in Ashanti Region
The police in the Ashanti South Region have discovered arms and ammunition concealed in a palm plantation near Manso Nkwanta.
A police report said the Ashanti South Regional Commander, DCOP Joseph Nyaaba, deployed officers and other ranks to search a palm plantation at a location near Manso Nkwanta, where suspects were alleged to have hidden some rifles.
It said that at about 2.30 pm on Friday, December 26, the team identified a covered trench beneath a palm tree.
“The team, upon digging, recovered four rifles, including one AK47 assault rifle loaded and ready with 18 rounds of 7.62x39mm ammunition, one MG3 assault rifle loaded with one round of 7.62x51mm ammunition, one Muzzler 12 pump-action gun loaded with seven rounds of AA cartridges, and one loaded single-barrel gun.
“A black hood, a pair of multicoloured sneakers, a pair of black slippers and a pair of black bathroom slippers were also found at the scene,” the report said.
The report added that investigations were ongoing and that efforts were being made to trace the sources of the weapons.
