The people had, for a very long time, relied on water from the Pra River for household chores and for drinking.

Assin Ongwa is a farming community in the Assin South District, located near Assin Dompim. It has a population of about 2,000.

The water system

The District Chief Executive (DCE) for Assin South, Mr Kwabena Adjei Anomafo, who inaugurated the facility, said the project, which cost GHc704,000, was constructed for the people of Assin Ongwa to access good and hygienic water to drink and for domestic use.

He called on the inhabitants to ensure that their surroundings as well as the water delivery point were clean in order to avoid contracting diseases.

A former DCE for the Assin South District, Mrs Sabina Appiah-Kubi, urged the people to see the facility as property provided to propel the development of the community.

She said the facility should motivate them to work harder and ensure that the community was disease-free.

The Chief of Assin Ongwa, Nana Kwasare II, expressed his gratitude and that of the people to the district assembly for initiating the process to have the facility installed.
