President Mahama prioritises economic recovery

President John Dramani Mahama has outlined his vision crucial for Ghana’s economic stability and rebuilding trust with the Ghanaian people.

He said four key areas his administration will prioritise include: economic restoration and stabilization; improvement of the business and investment environment; governance and constitutional reforms; and accountability and the fight against corruption.

In his inaugural address at the Black Star Square in Accra today, he highlighted the country’s recent struggles with inflation, unemployment, and fiscal deficits, emphasizing that economic recovery would be a top priority for his government.

“The circumstances we find ourselves in are indeed tough, but even so, I will be decisive and swift in my actions. We will focus our initial efforts on economic restoration and stabilization of the macroeconomic environment. Ghana’s future depends on how well we can regain control of our economy,” he assured.

He further assured to improve the investment climate, making Ghana more attractive to both local and international investors.

“We need to ensure that Ghana is once again open for business, by improving the regulatory environment and reducing bureaucratic bottlenecks, we will unleash the potential of our entrepreneurs and attract foreign direct investments to spur growth,” President Mahama said.

On governance and constitutional reforms, he emphasised the need for greater transparency and stronger democratic institutions saying “our democracy must work for the people.”

He said his government will embark on governance and constitutional reforms that will ensure the participation of all, foster accountability, and strengthen our institutions.

He affirmed his commitment to work with parliament and civil society to bring about meaningful changes that would strengthen the country’s governance.

He explained that the fight against corruption would be a cornerstone of his administration, adding that “actions have always spoken louder than words, we will ensure accountability and transparency at all levels of government. My administration will not tolerate corruption, and we will take decisive actions against anyone found guilty of abusing public office.”

President Mahama further called on Ghanaians to join him in this mission to reset the country towards a brighter future.

“There is reason for hope, and we must have faith in Ghana’s ability to overcome, excel, and succeed. Together, we will reset our beloved nation’s course toward a brighter future,” he stated.
