President Mahama visits Japan

President John Dramani Mahama will this week be in Japan on an official visit.

While in the Asian country, the President would hold discussions with Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe.

A statement from the Flagstaff House Monday said the two leaders would oversee the signing of a new cooperation agreement and address a joint press briefing in Tokyo.

Mr Mahama and his wife, Lordina, would also meet with the Emperor and Empress of Japan.

Japan, which is one of Ghana’s major development partners, has over the years, made significant contributions to the country's development especially in the areas of health, agriculture, infrastructure and social services.

The statement said President Mahama and Prime Minister Abe would hold discussions on a number of issues including the decision by Japan to restore the ten loan portfolio.

The President would, in other engagements, meet with African heads of mission, address an investment forum and meet the Ghanaian community and grant audience to a number of Japanese officials including the President of JICA and a group led by the Chief Cabinet Secretary of Japan.

Mrs Mahama will on her part hold discussions with Mrs Abe and also address a gathering of the spouses of African Heads of mission, leaders of Japanese Women’s groups and female ambassadors.
