President to attend 69th UN General Assembly

President John Dramani Mahama leaves Accra today for New York, USA, to attend the 69th General Assembly of the United Nations (UN).

The summit is on the theme, "Delivering on and implementing a transformative post-2015 development agenda".

Briefing the Presidential Press Corps at the Flagstaff House yesterday, the Head of Communications at the Presidency, Mr Ben Dotsei Malor, said Mr Mahama would deliver his address to the assembly on September 25.

The address, he said, would touch on a number of developments at home and abroad.

As Chairman of ECOWAS, President Mahama would inform the assembly about the Ebola situation in the West African sub-region.

Mr Malor, who is also the Presidential Spokesman, said the President would further hammer home the need for the international community to fully support efforts at fighting against the disease.

He stated that the President would touch on Ghana's position on developments in other parts of the world, including the Middle East, that posed a threat to peace and security.

On the home front, he said, the President would speak on efforts the government was making to promote made-in-Ghana Goods.

Sidelines

On the sidelines of the assembly meeting, President Mahama will, among other activities, attend a meeting on Ebola to be chaired by President Barack Obama and attended by the UN Chief, Ban Ki-Moon.

Mr Mahama will again participate in the UN Climate Change Summit on the invitation of the Secretary General and also chair a meeting on renewable energy.

While in the US, the President will be the key speaker at separate lectures in two universities, including the famous Harvard University in Boston.  

From the US, President Mahama will travel to Dubai, the UAE, to attend a global programme on October 1 before turning home.
