The incident is said to have occurred at 2:30 p.m. last Wednesday.

The reverend brother, identified as Sebastian Dery, 28, was found hanging in his white cassock in his house at the Navrongo Parish.

The Public Relations Officer (PRO) of the Upper East Regional Police Command, Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Mr Thomas Agbanyo, who confirmed the incident to the Daily Graphic yesterday, said two priests from the parish had gone to report the matter to the police.

He stated that so far the police had not detected any foul play.

ASP Agbanyo noted that Rev. Brother Dery had reportedly left a suicide note which read: "I would miss you Emma, tell my mother I would miss her."

Rev. Brother Dery’s suicide brings to two the number of Catholic clergy who have committed suicide in less than a year.

On August 23, 2014, a Catholic priest and tutor at the St Victor’s Major Seminary at Malshegu in the Tamale metropolis, Rev. Father Kelvin Abakisi, committed suicide by hanging.

The body of the deceased has been deposited at the morgue of the Bolgatanga Hospital, while the police continue with their investigations.
