 Rev. Seth Agidi

Rev. Dr Agidi is new EP Moderator

The new Moderator of the General Assembly of the Evangelical Presbyterian Church, Ghana (EPCG), Rev. Dr Seth Senyo Agidi, has been inducted into office at a special church service in Ho.

Rev. Dr Agidi, who takes over from the Very Rev. Francis Amenu as the 13th moderator of the church, will serve for a six-year term.

The Very Rev. Amenu, who inducted his successor into office, called on leaders to refrain from sycophancy and provide the kind of leadership that will promote sustainable development.

“We preach peace but we do not practice the peace we advocate for. We must recognise the fact that peace is an important ingredient in building bridges of reconciliation and unity and promoting development,” he stressed.

He said Ghanaians were the cause of their own plight and fate, by their acts of recklessness and undermining the efforts of their leaders.

Stop blame game

The Very Rev. Amenu said the nation could not continue to blame multinational institutions and donors without reflecting on the negative attitude of Ghanaians.

“Should we continue to politicise our own peaceful survival and growth? Should we continue to politicise every little mishap affecting the country by apportioning blame to partisan regimes?” he questioned.

He said people must appreciate the fact that it was difficult to make significant strides in the quest for sustainable growth and development if the nation remained polarised.

New moderator

The new moderator commended his predecessors for their good leadership which had propelled the church to its present stage.

He promised to engage in “renewal evangelism” to double the membership of the church during his tenure.

Rev. Dr Agidi said a commercial affairs and fund mobilisation department would be created at all branches of the church to promote investment, adding that he would endeavour to renovate the church’s schools and upgrade existing clinics into hospitals and polyclinics.

He said the activities of the Evangelical Development and Relief Agency (EDRA) of the church would also be scaled up to empower the poor and vulnerable by providing them with microcredit facilities, potable water, sanitation and food security.

Rev. Dr Agidi said the church would encourage partnership with other religious organisations nationally and internationally to enable less endowed rural congregations to share experiences with other churches on rural and urban challenges of Christian life.

Inspiration

Delivering the sermon, the President of Eden Theological Seminary in the United States of America (USA),  Rev. Dr David Greenshaw, said the inspiration of God would provide the necessary energy for the new moderator to run the affairs of the church.

According to him, the EPCG was highly acclaimed and esteemed in the world and that with hard work, the new moderator would find it easy to lead the church and sustain its glory.
