A group of armed robbers last Saturday evening ambushed passengers, including traders, who were travelling between Bonsu Nkwanta and Sefwi Adaekrom in the Western Region and robbed them at gunpoint.
Five people who sustained gunshot wounds, including a driver, were rushed to the SDA Hospital at Juaboso.
The identities of the victims were not available at the time of going to press.
The police are currently hunting for the robbers.
According to the police, the robbers ambushed the vehicles and the road users at a place between Bonsu Nkwanta and Sefwi Adaekrom where the road is very bad.
The robbers are said to have shot into the vehicles and chased other people who were on foot about 5.30 p.m. last Saturday to rob them.
Robbers escape
Before the police patrol team, which was preparing for its night patrols could get to the scene to rescue the victims, the robbers had bolted.
Some of the passengers managed to run into the bush and one of them managed to go to Bonsu Nkwanta, where he informed the police about the activities of the robbers.
Location
The police explained that the nature of the road where the incident occurred was very bad and the robbers took advantage of it to rob the people.
Police sources say the robbers suddenly emerged from the bush to stop the vehicles and rob the passengers. In cases where the robbers perceived that the drivers could easily escape, they shot into the vehicles through the windscreens to frighten the drivers, so that they (robbers) could rob the passengers.
As a result of the shooting in this case, five people, including a driver, sustained gunshot wounds.
Speaking to the Daily Graphic, the Juaboso District Police Commander, Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Mr Isaac Akligbe, who confirmed the incident, said the police were yet to make any arrest and urged members of communities to report any strangers to the police.
