The leader of the NGO, Sharif Jannah Focus, said the donation was its contribution towards helping Muslim inmates to still receive teachings of the religion and enable them to live well.

He stressed the importance of charity in Islam, saying, “Sadaqa Train is all about preaching and charity and determination to help our brothers and sisters in the little way we can during this holy month of Ramadan”.

Muslim inmates at the prison received sermons delivered by some members of the NGO and were advised on life after prison and told to have faith in Allah and exercise patience as they served their time in prison.

Jannah Focus said branches of the NGO in Kumasi and Tamale had made similar donations to the prisons in those cities.

Gratitude

Deputy Superintendent of Prisons (DSP) Sani Adams received the items on behalf of the inmates and expressed his gratitude to the group for their gesture.

He said the items would be used for the intended purpose. He said he was hopeful that the sermons presented during the visit would go a long way to make the inmates mend their ways upon their release and even inside the prison.

He said the Nsawam Prison needed more of such support to enable it provide efficient care for the prisoners.
