Send-off reception for Rev Kalenga

The outgoing Apostolic Nuncio to Ghana, the Most Rev Leon B. Kalenga, has called on Ghanaians and the Catholic Church in Ghana to live in peace and harmony with all.

He urged them to be united in their service to God and mankind to strengthen the church in winning more souls for Christ and also sustain the peace of the country.

He made the call during a send-off and reception service organised for him at the Holy Spirit Cathedral, Adabraka in Accra, yesterday.

The Most Rev Kalenga has been transferred to El Salvador after five years’ service in Ghana.

While he was here, the Most Rev Kalenga supported the poor in society, especially needy children, those who could hardly go to school, those in the orphanages and correctional centres, the physically challenged and those in the streets.

He deeply encouraged all to share in the noble mission for the poor.

“Always show gratitude to people who have contributed immensely to your life, education and ministry,” he said.

The Catholic Church in Ghana received many blessings during his stay.

“He was a gift of God to Ghana and the Catholic Church,” the Most Rev Joseph Osei-Bonsu, the Bishop of Konongo-Mampong and President of the Ghana Catholic Bishops’ Conference, said.

The Bishop of Keta-Akatsi and Vice-President of the Ghana Catholic Bishops’ Conference, the Most Rev. Anthony Adanuty, made a presentation of a gold ring and a plaque to the outgoing Apostolic Nuncio on behalf of the church to show its appreciation and love for him.

The immediate past President of the National Council of Catholic Women, Mrs Afua Amoo-Adare, also made a presentation of a gold ring to bid the Most Rev Kalenga farewell.
