Speaking to the Daily Graphic, the Metro Fire Station Officer at Makola, Mr Solomon Anum Lartey, said the rationale behind the exercise was to test the safety systems put in place at the Marina Mall.

According to him, one of the effective ways to protect lives and properties, particularly for corporate institutions, is for management to periodically check its safety security measures put in place.

“By so doing, such institutions will always be ready and prepared to deal with security issues that may arise in future. This is a  mandatory obligation of business institutions in the country,” he said.

Mr Solomon, however, lauded the management of the Marina Mall for its consistent efforts to ensure the safety of its workers and customers, and urged other  institutions to adopt similar measures.

The Facility Manager for the JHI Property Service, management company for the Marina Mall, Mr Ebenezer Asare Amanquar, said the exercise was to mark the one year anniversary of the mall.

“We will be celebrating our one year anniversary on November 15, 2013, and as part of the preparation, we plan to ensure  the safety of our workers and customers,” he said.

The Marina Mall is owned by the Marina Market, Ghana which belongs to the Marina Group, a company founded in 1989 and located in Ghana, Burkina Faso and Niger.

The mall has a six-level tower of offices with an approximate area of 3,250 m2 occupied by Nestle Central and West Africa, Technip Ghana/UK and Hess Ghana Exploration.
