Skills Development Fund

The Skills Development Fund, an initiative of the government, seeks to address the skills and technological needs of business enterprises operating in both the formal and informal sectors of the economy.

It supports initiatives in the areas of continuous skills upgrading, technology acquisition and innovation, and market-oriented research. It is managed by the Council for Technical and Vocational Education and Training (COTVET),

At the ceremony to award the grants to the six institutions, the Minister of Tourism, Culture and Creative Arts, Mrs Elizabeth Ofosu-Adjare, said the disbursement marked the beginning of a milestone in the partnership between the Ghana Tourism Federation and COTVET.

She said for Ghana to become competitive in the global tourism industry, it was important that “we work together to train all personnel working in the industry while monitoring the services being offered to ensure value for money”.

COTVET Project Support Unit

The Project Coordinator and Head of the COTVET Project Support Unit, Mr Matthew Dally, said the training to be offered beneficiaries would improve their service quality.

He said under the tourism industry training project, SDF would provide up to GH¢16 million in grants to support various capacity building initiatives for members of the Ghana Tourism Federation, an umbrella body of business associations in the local tourism industry.
