Spiritual churches thank God for peace

The Prophets and Spiritual Churches Council (PSCC) is one religious body that has not only dedicated itself to the spiritual needs of its members but is also committed to religious tolerance, peace, progress and development of the country.

It shows keen interest in the welfare of the country and Ghanaians by meeting members of other religious groups to promote religious harmony.

Furthermore, it holds annual thanksgiving services to celebrate the success of key national events.

Over the years, PSCC has held prayer services ahead of national elections and celebrated January 7 every year for the successful swearing in of elected presidents of the country.

Demonstration

As a demonstration of its interest in national events, the council has held a thanksgiving service to mark the first anniversary of the successful hearing of the 2012 election petition case.

Before then, the PSCC members, led by its Spiritual Leader, Prophet Nakoa Nazareth Ansah Jamson, visited the offices of the Christian Council of Ghana and the National Catholic Secretariat (NCS), both in Accra, to court their support.

At the NCS, the General Secretary, Rev. Fr Nicholas Afriyie, lauded the move by PSCC to organise the thanksgiving service and pray for sustained peace in the country.

He said the initiative was good and promised the support of NCS.

Established in 2009, the PSCC has more than 300 members across the country.

Rev. Fr Afriyie said the organisation of non-denominational thanksgiving service showed the existence of unity in the body of Christ.

Prophet Jamson

For his part, Prophet Jamson said the Supreme Court ruling on the election petition was so dear to the hearts of Ghanaians that the entire nation was calm before the verdict.

He said through the intervention of God, nothing untoward happened after the declaration by the Supreme Court, adding that it was for that reason that the council decided to thank God for the tranquillity and peace that existed.

“Our God deserves thanksgiving by His people for Him to see that we are together,” he said.

Nakoa Jamson, who is also the Founder and Leader of the Israel King of Jews Church, called on leaders to seek peace always for the country.

On corruption, he called on leaders to do their best to address the canker.

Chief Imam

At the thanksgiving service, the National Chief Imam, Sheikh Osman Nuhu Sharubutu, lauded the level of religious tolerance in the country, describing it as a model for neighbouring countries to emulate.

He said the way Muslims and Christians lived together was remarkable and worthy of praise.

He expressed the hope that this achievement would be maintained to ensure continuous peace and harmony in the country.

“The Almighty Allah has created us as one people in spite of our religious preferences. We must, therefore, strive to live in peace with ourselves,” he said.

The Chief Imam said some of the problems in neighbouring African countries were due to religious and political intolerance, and called on Ghanaians to avoid acts that could undermine the nation’s peace.

Christian, Islamic and traditional prayers were offered for the Executive and the people of Ghana.

Special prayers were also offered for peace and security in Africa and to ask for God’s protection against the Ebola Viral Disease (EVD).
