The Rector of the Polytechnic, Dr Abdulai Salifu Asuro, who gave the advice, encouraged them to work very hard and come out with their own research and innovation projects.

The polytechnic admitted 2,876 students comprising 1,930 males and 946 females for the 2014/2015 academic year out of a total of 3,789 applications received.

Dr Asuro announced that the polytechnic, as part of efforts to improve the academic and entrepreneurial standards, has introduced a Higher National Diploma (HND) programme in Fashion, Modelling and Designing.

That, he said, would go a long way to provide opportunities for the greater number of students who complete their intermediate and advanced levels of fashion and design to continue with their studies rather than diverting into different disciplines.

Other programmes

“We are  also seeking the necessary accreditation to mount other programmes such as HND Purchasing and Supply, HND Refrigeration and Air-Conditioning, HND Welding and Fabrication, as well as HND Civil Engineering to satisfy the demands of our existing industries in the country” he said.

Dr Asuro congratulated the fresh men and women and urged them to desist from all acts of indiscipline such as examination malpractices and anti-social vices.

The Secretary of the Northern Regional branch of the Ghana National Association of Teachers (GNAT), Mr Abdulai Baba, who was the guest speaker for the occasion, advised the students to make good use of the opportunity given them to attain their career goals.

He charged them to always remember where they came from and where they were going since that was the surest way by which they could remain focused in life.
