Addressing the ceremony, the Founder of the Salt and Light Ministry, Rev Dr Joyce Aryee, called on women to contribute their quota to building a just society through leadership by example.
She urged them to show love and kindness to both men and women as exemplified by the life of Jesus Christ and said the celebration of women’s day would have no meaning if love and care for one another was not exhibited.
She said both men and women needed to work together to build a strong partnership to ensure peace and accelerated national development and urged Christian woman to live up to their roles and responsibilities.
The President of the Tema Baptist Women’s Missionary Union, Mrs Christiana Owusu Koranteng, announced that the union had promoted spiritual growth among women’s groups in the Tema area by organising seminars on women empowerment and domestic violence and said the union had also undertaken educational programmes for young women in the church.
Mrs Owusu Koranteng said the union annually supported some hospitals in Tema and had also adopted a school in Frankadua where freed Trokosi victims are given apprenticeship training in various skills.
She encouraged the young women in the church to join the union to benefit from its activities, which assist women to build their skills for their chosen professions and develop their entrepreneurial abilities.
