Tema Police arrest 4 for armed robbery
The Tema police have arrested two suspected armed robbers believed to have been terrorising some communities in the metropolis.

The suspects, George Takyi Quainoo, a student, 30, and Francis Dela Morti, a carpenter, 40, are believed to be members of a robbery gang who have been terrorising residents of Ashaiman, Katamanso, Appolonia and their environs.
At a press briefing in Tema the Tema Regional Police Commander, Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCOP) Paul M.N. Awini, said on January 1, 2016, at about 7:25 p.m, the two men, together with an accomplice now at large, went to a drinking spot carrying a sack that contained offensive weapons, including a shotgun, one pistol, a machete and other implements adapted for forceful entry and a mask, with the intention to rob but they were arrested by a police team on patrol duties.
Investigations
He said investigations by the police revealed that one of the suspects, Morti, was an ex-convict who was remanded into prison custody in 2002 for robbery at Teshie Tsuibleoo, where a Customs Officer shot and killed two of Mortis’ accomplices during a robbery expedition.
He said the suspect Morti was released somewhere in 2010 but had since been involved in several robberies within the Tema area until his arrest, while the other suspect was a self-styled resident vigilante operating in Ashaiman and its environs.
Power theft
In a related development, Mr Awini said two persons had also been arrested for stealing power and engaging in illegal power connection.
The two, Justice Addo, 42, and John Anku, 37, both electricians and other accomplices at large, were said to have in their possession a number of old analogue electricity meters which they sold and illegally connected to unsuspecting customers at Zenu, near Ashaiman, and its environs at prices ranging between GH¢200 and GH¢2,000, depending on the phase of the meter.
Mr Awini said when installed, the customers enjoyed electricity without paying any bills.
