A centre for sports and recreation built by the Trinity United Church, Legon has been officially opened and dedicated.
It is a multifaceted community facility aimed at taking full advantage of the connection between sports and spirituality to help persons of all ages and backgrounds to connect to Jesus Christ.

It is located on the campus of the Trinity Theological Seminary at Mempeasem in Accra, same premises where the Trinity United Church, Legon is located.
The Vice President of the Trinity Theological Seminary, Rev Dr Martin Obeng on behalf of the President of the Trinity Theological Seminary, Rev Prof Frederick Mawusi Amevenku, assisted by Very Rev Dr John Abedu Quarshie, the Minister in Charge of Trinity United Church, Legon dedicated the sports and recreation centre on Sunday [June 22, 2025], supported by Nii Adokwei Abrahams, the Church Steward and Rev Vincent Asamoah of the Ghana Baptist Convention and the Leader of Sports for Life Ministry, a partner organisation for Fellowship for Christian Athletes based in US.

Speaking at the event, Very Rev Dr John Abedu Quarshie, the Minister in Charge of Trinity United Church, Legon explained that the scripture declares that physical training is of some value, but godliness has value for all things, holding promise for both the present life and the life to come.

He said there was therefore a real connection between sports and spirituality.
“Sports and recreation have proven to be a powerful and effective tool in evangelism and missions as the church seeks to share the good news of Jesus Christ especially to individuals who may find traditional church worship unengaging”, he said.

Very Rev Dr Abedu Quarshie said unfortunately the church has been slow in taking advantage of such opportunity to help people connect with Jesus Christ and that it was based on this that the TUC, Legon decided to make use of that opportunity since the church grounds was a prime location for the promotion of sports and recreation.
“As individuals of all ages and groups and families meet to exercise and recreate, we will also take the opportunity to reflect with them on issues of eternal significance through the sharing of the Gospel of Jesus Christ and help them to find meaning and purpose of their lives.

The aim of the centre which has a basketball court, volleyball court, football pitch, children’s playground with different play items installed is to build a community of sports and recreational facilities within a safe environment for all ages and abilities, use the facility to attract, share the gospel and nurture souls for Christ and continually disciple them for God’s Kingdom, promote a sense of unity, Christ centred character formation and connectedness by bringing people together through shared activities, competitions and provide spaces for leisure, reflection and active life-style.

Rev Vincent Asamoah of the Ghana Baptist Convention and the Leader of Sports for Life Ministry, a partner organisation for the Fellowship for Christian Athletes based in the US speaking at the event expressed excitement that the TUC Centre for Sports and Recreation is an enclosed area where people can be invited in a safe and friendly environmental and the opportunity to hear the gospel.
