‘Upgrade neonatal intensive care units’

The President of the Paediatric Society of Ghana, Dr Ebenezer Badoe, has expressed concern over what he observed as  the needless loss of infant and maternal lives during childbirth and called for the upgrading of facilities in neonatal intensive units in all hospitals. According to him, such measures, including sensitisation programmes for mothers, were the surest way of reducing infant mortality in the country.

"Policies should be geared towards educating and empowering mothers, particularly those living below the poverty line, since they are often the most vulnerable,” he said.

Donation

Dr Badoe made the remarks at this year’s Mother's Day celebration at the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital, where PZ Cussons, producers of a range of baby products that include the new Camel baby antiseptic liquid, donated some items to mothers  in the children’s ward, the emergency and the neonatal intensive care units.

The Brands Development and Activation Manager of PZ Cussons, Gladys Azure, made the presentation that included baby lotions and oils, powder, baby cologne, bar soaps, wipes and the new Camel antiseptic variant, specially formulated for babies’ delicate skin.

The annual ‘Mother’s Day’ donation, Ms Azure explained, was initiated by PZ Cussons six years ago to “recognise and appreciate mothers in the country, particularly those who cannot spend time at home with their families, but for another reason or the other were at the hospital taking care of their babies.”

Ms Azure noted that Cussons Baby range of products were committed to quality health care delivery to mothers and babies all around the country.

Appreciation

On behalf of all mothers, one of the beneficiaries, Madam Mary Watts Amissah, expressed appreciation to their benefactors for their kind gesture.
