Victims arrest robber on tricycle

A suspected armed robber, taking a ride on a commercial tricycle, was arrested by his victims in a weird twist of fate for the 19-year-old.

Joshua Anaolga was arrested by his victims at about 1 a.m. on Saturday, October 17, 2020, about two hours after the robbery incident, while he was on the very commercial tricycle that his victims had sought to board to go and lodge a complaint at the police station.

The Tamale Circuit Court has since remanded him into police custody for the alleged robbery of the two men at gunpoint near a drinking spot at the SSNIT Flats in Tamale at night on Friday, October 16, 2020.

An Italian-made pistol with ammunition, two mobile phones and a wristwatch were retrieved from him when he was sent to the Tamale Police Station.

Anaolga pleaded not guilty to the charge of robbery when he appeared before Justice Anthony Aduku-Aidoo’s court last Friday, and will reappear on November 5, 2020.

His accomplice, Raphael Abayor, is at large, and the police have launched a manhunt for him.

Facts

The facts of the case as presented in court were that at about 1 a.m. on October 17, 2020, Frico Daniel and Alhassan Saqid Azimdow, both 31, arrested and sent Anaolga to the Tamale Police Station where they lodged a complaint of robbery against them.

The complainants told the police that on October 16, 2020, at about 11:45 p.m. they were attacked, beaten and robbed at gunpoint by Anaolga and his accomplice, Abayor.

Anaolga and Abayor allegedly robbed their victims of an unregistered motorbike worth GH¢3,000, an iPhone X valued at GH¢4,000 and a Techno Spark 4 phone valued at GH¢650 at gunpoint.

Abayor, thereafter, fled the robbery scene with the motorbike they had taken from their victims.

Anaolga was, however, arrested by the victims later when they were looking for a means to get to the police station to lodge a complaint.

Among the items found on Anaolga at the police station were a pistol, two AP 32 auto ammunition, a wristwatch and two mobile phones.
