The Dormaahene, who also serves as a High Court Judge, warned that if the government fails to act, the National House of Chiefs will take matters into their own hands and reclaim their lands.

Speaking during a courtesy call by former President John Dramani Mahama as part of his campaign tour of the region, Osagyefo Oseadeyo Agyemang Badu II expressed deep concern over the devastation caused by galamsey on water bodies and natural resources.

He stressed that the Chiefs had only entrusted the government with the oversight of the lands and would reclaim them if necessary to prevent further environmental degradation.

He also expressed frustration at how some citizens have allowed foreigners to engage in illegal mining, which has led to widespread environmental damage.

The ultimatum comes amid growing calls for stronger action against galamsey, which has posed threats to Ghana's water bodies and ecosystem.
