That way, he said, they would put smiles on the faces of their loved ones, family and friends and themselves.
“Your loved ones, family and friends and I need you alive,” he said in a recorded road safety message to the public.
Road traffic accidents
President Mahama recalled the high number of road traffic accidents during festive seasons and said the accidents caused injuries to drivers, passengers and other road users.
“Sometimes, not only are people maimed but precious lives are lost,” with vehicles and goods also getting damaged, President Mahama said, adding that such accidents also aused pain and distress to loved ones, family and friends.
Causes
President Mahama attributed the accidents to speeding, overloading, wrongful overtaking, driving and texting, drink-driving and disregard for road traffic regulations.
He, therefore, urged motorists to be disciplined on the road by respecting other road users.
“Put a smile on the faces of your loved ones and family by getting to your destination safely,” he advised.
