She said when a woman was empowered economically, socially and politically, there was real transformation and development in the society and the nation to the glory of God.

Rev. Mrs Adiepena was speaking at the opening of the first annual conference of the Meridian Presbytery Women's Bible Class of the church held at the Nungua Senior High School.

The Women's Bible Class is one of the well-organised and respected groups of the E.P. Church.

The theme for the conference was: " Go, make disciples. The role of women."

Government’s role

Mrs Adiepena said women had over the years been relegated to the background and called on the government to work effectively with women faith organisations to help empower women comprehensively.

"We must be a channel for the government in development. If women need credit to be financially sound, they need to be honest and faithful. They need to understand the scriptures and recognise that the fund given is God's money and as such must be utilised judiciously."

She tasked the membership of the Women's Bible Class to re-examine their vision and carry out their evangelism roles effectively. "It is time to reach out to the unreached. They are in our environment, around us, we pass by them every day. Have you asked them whether they have given their lives to Christ? " she asked.

Priority to education

The President of the Meridian Presbytery E.P. Church Women's Bible Class, Madam Christiana Aku Fugar, advised the women to give priority to the education of their children.

"Even though more girls drop out of school than boys, girls who stay longer in the classrooms do better in the sciences and mathematics. There is more we can do for our girl-children, if only parents take their parenting role seriously," she said.

Madam Fugar lamented what she described as “irresponsibility on the part of some fathers, which sadly pushes some women into sexual exploitation and also leads to child neglect and abandonment.”

She advised members of the class to find out the legal instruments and social interventions available to women to enable them to improve on their roles and to fully accomplish their mission.

Goodwill message

The Moderator of the Synod of the E.P. Church, Ghana, Rev. Dr Major Bliss D. K. Agbeko, who opened the conference, prayed that, “the good Lord would equip the membership of the Women's Bible Class with wisdom for strategic evangelisation for the growth and development of the Meridian Presbytery in particular and the E.P. Church as a whole.”
