When completed, the bypass will offer motorists an alternative route to the Winneba road through Old Barrier, Aplaku, Oshie, Bortianor, Kokrobite, Tuba and Nyanyano.

Messrs Joshob Construction Company Limited is executing the GH¢30-million project scheduled to be completed at the end of 2016.

The Department of Urban Roads (DUR) is providing supervision for the project.

At an official ceremony to signal the commencement of the works, a Deputy Director in charge of Maintenance at the DUR, Mr DeGraft Afful, said the project was being carried out in four phases simultaneously.

Project

The first section, 5.7 km, begins from the Old Barrier to Kokrobite, the second, 6.97 km, continues from Kokrobite to Nyanyano and the third, 7 km, stretches from Nyanyano, to the Winneba road at Sapato Junction.

The fourth section, which is 4.6 km, begins from the tollbooth to the Tuba taxi rank.

Under the project, a 20-metre bridge spanning the Okrudu River at Nyanyano will also be constructed to connect that part of the Central Region to the Greater Accra Region.

Work so far

According to Mr Afful, considerable progress had been made on the construction of drains, and expressed satisfaction with the pace of work.

"Setting out of the road has also been undertaken for the Kokrobite to Nyanyano section and all encroachments identified have been marked for demolition," Mr Afful said.

The Resident Engineer for the project, Mr Carlos Mensah, took the Deputy Greater Accra Regional Minister, Nii Djanmah Vanderpuye, the Municipal Chief Executive for Kasoa, Dr Adam Nuhu, and other dignitaries through the scope of the project.
