International Nurses Day: Government praises Ghanaian nurses

The government has commended Ghanaian nurses for their various contributions toward the country's healthcare delivery, particularly in the fight against COVID-19 pandemic.

Speaking at a media briefing on COVID-19 update in Accra today [Tuesday, May 12, 2020],  the Minister of Information, Mr Oppong Nkrumah said the Ghanaian nurses have been exceptional in the fight against the COVID-19 pandemic.

“….as you are aware, we are in the midst of a pandemic and the nurse is an instrumental figure in this fight. From contact tracing, struggling at hospitals to care for the sick and follow up even on people who have even recovered; the Ghanaian nurse has been a strong soldier in this battle,” he explained.

“The Ministry is dedicating today’s briefing to the celebration of the thousands of nurses nationwide who continue to serve as part of the frontline heath workers in our battle against COVID-19,” he added.

Mr Oppong Nkrumah's commendation was in line with International Nurses Day, which was on the theme: "Nursing the world to health."

The International Nurses Day is an international day observed around the world on May 12 of each year, to mark the contributions that nurses make to society

Mr Oppong Nkrumah on behalf of the President, the government, and the people of Ghana congratulated all Ghanaian nurses and pledged that the government would continue to create the enabling environment for them to practice their profession.

“Your effort, sacrifice and your dedication is immeasurable.  Tthe President, the government of Ghana and the people of Ghana; very much appreciate your hard work and will continue to provide the support that we can to make your burden lighter,” he said.
