ZoomAlliance inspects dumpsites
ZoomAlliance Ghana Limited, now Alliance Waste, yesterday went on an inspection tour of places which had been illegally used as dumpsites but have now been cleared of filth.

The tour followed a 10-day ultimatum that was issued by the Vice-President, Mr Paa Kwesi Amissah-Arthur, to all Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies (MMDAs) and waste management companies in the country to clear all refuse within their localities.
In Accra, the waste-clearing exercise was spearheaded by the Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA) and Zoomlion Ghana Limited.
Places visited
Places visited included Agbogbloshie, ICGC Park, Kokomlemle Britania, Mallam Atta Market, Avenor Street, Odorna Circle Station, Mallam Market, Korle Gonno Roman School and Korle Gonno Okoe Laundry.
Others were Chorkor Joe Cemetery , Mamprobi No 10, Mamprobi 205, Lashibi Ramsar Site, Baatsonaa Light Industrial Area, Manhean, La Wireless, La Cemetery, La Trade Fair, and the Nungua Old Cemetery.
The visits
At La Wireless, a community in the La Dadekotopon Municipality in Accra, heaps of rubbish had been cleared and the gutters cleaned of filth.
Residents expressed their satisfaction with the ‘new look’ the community had taken and expressed the hope that the exercise would be ongoing.
About 197 people in La alone have reported sick since the outbreak of cholera a few months ago, out of which six have died.

In an interaction with the media, the Assemblyman for the La Dadekotopon Municipality, Mr Nii Armah Ashietey, expressed the hope that residents would from now on become more sensitive to environmental issues.
He said the clean -up exercise had brought a breath of fresh air to the community and lauded the government for the initiative.
He said the people would be educated on the essence of keeping their surroundings clean at all times. He further promised to ensure that rubbish in the community would be cleared on time.
At the Mallam Atta Market in Accra, the situation was different. A section of the traders still proved difficult and would not pay heed to calls to keep their environment clean.
A pineapple seller had piled the peels of the fruit by her wares, when a refuse container was only a few metres away.
Other traders had also packed refuse into plastic bags close to their stalls. A part of the market, though, had been swept clean.
Alliance Waste
The Media Co-ordinator for Alliance Waste, Mr Jacob Mingle, said the tour had the objective of sensitising people in the various communities in Accra to keep their environment clean.
He said the company had the duty of ensuring that waste contractors were given the needed logistics and supplies to execute their duties so that the aim of clearing the city of filth could be achieved.
He urged the public to desist from littering the environment indiscriminately and also support waste management companies and the government in a bid to keep the city clean.
