Geneticist rallies support for cancer treatment among children
A Ghanaian geneticist based in Texas, USA, is rallying support from Ghanaians to donate GHS 1 a year to support cancer treatment among children across the country.
Under his Cedi Foundation, a healthcare Nonprofit Organisation, Mr Lawrence K. Frimpong and his team of both Ghanaians and international partners is hoping to expand the scope to cover Ghanaians everywhere around the globe to raise over $25 million over a period to build facilities and offer free treatments.

The geneticist who wants each Ghanaian to donate only GHS 1 says he has already been able to raise an equivalent of GHS 26,500.00 from friends in the USA.
The foundation is to establish a management team, a board and outlets for donations to be made.
The laboratory geneticist, with about 30 years experience was touched when he last visited the Anthology Department of the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) to offer free treatments to patients.
Having worked on the genes that cause cancers among children over the years and the high cost of treatment, he said he decided to embark on this journey with the support from friends to save lives.
"What is the essence of life of we don't help each or cater for the needy. I believe we can do it as a people. One cedi a year is not much and we can all do it if we want to," he said.
The Medical Director of KATH, Prof Baafour Opoku said parents have been struggling to raise the needed cash to treat their wards and "this cause needs to be supported."
The medical director, who is also the Acting CEO of KATH, said the facility was ready to support the move to ease financial constraints at the facility.
