The queenmothers donated bags of rice, cooking oil, tomato paste, canned fish, bread and beverages to the students. The Paramount Queenmother of Mafi, Mama Sename III, who led the visiting delegation, urged parents of children with disabilities not to deny them education.

She pointed out that children with disabilities were an integral part of the society and had abilities in other areas to contribute to progress in society when given the appropriate assistance.

“One disability is not total inability,” Mama Sename pointed out.

Support

The Paramount Queenmother of Mepe, Mama Sreku IV, gave an assurance that members of the association would continue to visit the school and support the children in various ways to achieve their career dreams.

She called on corporate bodies, religious organisations and the public to help to provide the needs of the school. The Headmaster, Victor Bobison, thanked the queenmothers for the visit and support, saying the visit was timely and gratifying.

He said the unit, which was established in 2002, had an enrolment of 35 children. Mr Bobison said over the years, the unit, which was a basic school, had produced men and women of substance, including teachers, social workers, sportsmen and women, and Information and Communications Technology (ICT) instructors for the nation.

He said during the 2013 Paralympic Games in Kenya, the school’s cyclists emerged as the best in the tournament. “Apart from that, our children do well academically,” the headmaster added.

Mr Bobison appealed to the public to emulate the good example of the queenmothers and support the school to attain greater heights. He appealed for an ICT laboratory and braille materials for the school.
