The minister made the commendation at the 60th-anniversary of the hospital at Akosombo, which was celebrated on the theme: “60 Years of touching lives with quality healthcare”.
The celebration was commemorated with a durbar and the cutting of sod for the construction of a neonatal and paediatrics intensive care unit for the facility.
Mr Krapa, in his address, called on the workforce to constantly maintain the facility to provide quality healthcare for all.
“As leaders, we have to herald our success stories so that we can bring others on board. I am proud that the VHSL, which started as a unit, has become such a big health facility serving many people in the communities where VRA operates.
“All these became a reality because of hard work, commitment and dedication towards providing quality healthcare,” Mr Krapa emphasised.
Mr Krapa also expressed his profound gratitude to VRA for managing the energy sector and to a large extent the VHSL and hoped there would be more innovations and technology to be used in the health facility as health delivery now involves preventive care.

Innovation
“The successes that you have chalked are a testament to the fact that Ghanaians can manage their own affairs. Innovation is the hallmark of VHSL, and I urge the management of the facility to look for innovative and technological ways to operate the hospital so that when we meet again to celebrate another milestone of the hospital, we will be focused on achievements, especially in innovation and the deployment of modern technology to provide quality healthcare for the people and patients,” he advised.
Mr Krapa equally commended the chiefs of the Akwamu State for the cordial relationship that existed between the management of VRA and the Akwamu State, which culminated in the successes chalked by VHSL and, to a large extent, VRA.
Medical care
The Medical Director of VHSL, Dr Alexander Kwabena Omari Yeboah, in his welcome address, said the main aim of VRA for the establishment of the VHSL was to safeguard the health and well-being of the dam construction workers and VRA employees, their families and dependents, as well as the communities in the VRA enclave.
He explained that each of the hospitals started as a small infirmary, providing basic medical care to employees and their families. However, as time went on, the infirmaries grew and transformed into established hospitals, rendering outstanding healthcare services to the communities they served.

The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of VRA, Emmanuel Antwi-Darkwa said the mission and vision of VHSL was to provide and maintain quality health delivery service that meets stakeholders’ expectations in clean and healthy environments, as well as touch lives with quality healthcare all the time.
That, he explained, hinged on teamwork, integrity, professionalism, confidentiality and excellence, with the acronym TIPCE.
Coincidence
The Paramount Chief of the Akwamu Traditional Area, Odeneho Kwafo Akoto III, who was represented by the chief of Akosombo, Nana Ansah Prem IV, said the VHSL 60th-anniversary coincided with the 60th-anniversary of the queenmother of the Akwamu Traditional on the throne, which emphasises the unity between the Akwamu State and the VRA.
