Goil to institute monthly health walk

Ghana Oil Company (GOIL) has instituted a monthly health walk for staff, clients, drivers and other corporate bodies to promote good health and to cut down on health-related expenditures and frequent visits to health facilities.

Adherence to health improvement programmes will enhance productivity, according to the Western Region Zonal Manager of Goil, Mr Enerst Asare who last Saturday led other regional zones of the company across the country for a health walk dubbed “a kilometre for health.”
 
The 7km walk, which lasted for four hours, started from the company’s installation site at Sekondi through to Effia-Nkwanta Regional Hospital, and then the Sekondi St. John’s School, to Adiembra as well as other principal streets in the city before terminating at the installation site.
 
Participants were mainly employees of Goil, clients, staff of sister companies and media personnel.
 
Mr. Asare said regular walking strengthens one’s heart to reduce risks of heart diseases and stroke, it also keeps blood pressure and weight in check, as well as help prevent dementia and boosts energy levels.
 
He said Goil as a responsible company was not only profit oriented but also interested in the health of its clients.
 
“We believe when drivers are ill and not fit to drive, the company would not have any customers to purchase our products. We therefore encourage stakeholders, employees to keep fit and always be healthy,” he said.
 
He said most people spent huge sums of money on medical bills treating certain avoidable illnesses that should be prevented if exercises were regular in their daily lives.

The Zonal Manager said GOIL would collaborate with the Graphic Communications Group Limited (GCGL) and the Western regional branch of the Ghana Journalists Association (GJA) to organize monthly health walks, starting from March this year, to encourage people to stay healthy
 
He said other corporate bodies in the region had already showed interest in joining the health walk and that “the health walk will be one giant health walk bringing together different companies with a common aim to keep fit and contribute their quota to the development of the country.”
