Akwatia by-election: NDC vows to honour Omane Boamah with victory - Felix Kwakye Ofosu
The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has pledged to contest the upcoming Akwatia by-election in honour of the late Defence Minister and party strategist, Dr Edward Omane Boamah.
The Minister of State in charge of Government Communications, Felix Kwakye Ofosu, said the party was determined to secure the seat as a tribute to Dr Boamah, who he described as the architect of much of the NDC’s electoral machinery before his sudden death.
Dr Boamah, until his passing, served as the NDC’s Director of Elections and IT.
Speaking to journalists on the sidelines of the Africa–Singapore Business Forum on Monday, Mr Kwakye Ofosu said the party would “carry out and strengthen” Dr Boamah’s blueprint for victory.
“We all miss Dr Omane Boamah. Before his tragic passing, he had already begun laying the foundations for a resounding victory in Akwatia. In his memory, we will carry out those plans and strengthen them,” he said.
He added that the NDC would inject “even greater momentum” into its campaign to ensure the people of Akwatia received the “quality representation in Parliament that other constituencies are experiencing.”
The Akwatia by-election, scheduled for September 2, 2025, was triggered by the death of Ernest Kumi, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Member of Parliament for the constituency.
