Bagbin thanks Mahama for Speaker re-nomination for 9th Parliament

The current Speaker of Parliament, Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin has expressed gratitude to President-Elect John Dramani Mahama for mandating the National Democratic Congress (NDC) caucus in Parliament to re-nominate him for consideration as Speaker for the 9th Parliament.

In a statement issued on Sunday [Jan 5, 2025], Mr Bagbin acknowledged the trust placed in him, following consultations with NDC National Executives and Parliamentary peadership.

“I am deeply humbled by His Excellency’s confidence in my ability to lead the House as we begin a new chapter in our democratic journey,” Mr Bagbin stated.

Reflecting on his tenure in the 8th Parliament, Mr Bagbin highlighted his commitment to Ghana and the values of justice, fairness, and the rule of law throughout his parliamentary service.

Looking to the future, the Speaker assured that he would maintain high standards of integrity, transparency, and accountability in Parliament. 

He also expressed his intention to strengthen democratic institutions and ensure that Parliament becomes more responsive to the needs of the citizens.
