The Berekum Traditional Council has handed over the symbolic "key to Berekum" to Vice President and New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, in a gesture demonstrating their full support for his presidential bid.

"We have handed over the key to Berekum to you," Osaberima Yeboah Datteh II said on behalf of the Council, signaling the community's support for Dr. Bawumia and his political aspirations.

Welcoming the NPP flagbearer, the Chief praised Dr. Bawumia for his impactful tenure as Vice President and expressed belief in his potential as President.

"You have not been President before, but you have done a lot. As President, I believe you'll do even more," he said. He further urged the people of Berekum to support Dr. Bawumia, confident that such support would lead to more development for the community and the country.

The Berekum Traditional Council also expressed its gratitude to the NPP for the numerous development projects it has brought to the area.

"Berekum is very grateful to the NPP government for the development it has brought to us," Osaberima noted. "You look at the market that has been built, and also our main roads, which have been tarred. We are very fortunate because not every town has such opportunities. Berekum is very grateful."

He also highlighted the longstanding relationship between Berekum and the NPP, likening it to that of twins, and expressed confidence that the community would continue to support the party because of its track record.

"Berekum and your party are like twins. Always, we vote for you, and I am confident the people will continue to support you because of what you bring on board," he stated.

The Chief further appealed to Dr. Bawumia to ensure the completion of Berekum's town roads if elected President.

In response, Dr. Bawumia expressed his gratitude to the Traditional Council for their warm welcome and pledged to continue the developmental work initiated by his NPP predecessors, Presidents John Agyekum Kufuor and Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.

He also emphasised that the NPP has consistently shown care and concern for all Ghanaians through social interventions such as the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS), school feeding programs, and free Senior High School (SHS).
